Name: Sarah Jennsen (Prefers to be addressed by her surname)
Race: Mutant human
Age: 27
Height: 5'
Weight: 150lb
Physical Description: The pale blond colour of Jennsen's hair, combined with its length of only a few inches, does a good job of hiding how abnormally thin it is. Still, she frequently covers it with a dark cap. Jennsen is rarely seen without fully covered legs and long sleeves; her outfits vary from simple pants and a shirt in summer to jeans and a think jacket in winter, but she always covers as much of her body as possible and favours dark colours. She also wears surgical gloves wherever she goes.
Jennsen is unusually stocky and muscular for a scientist. Her skin is abnormally pale but she is otherwise unremarkable so long as she takes care not to injure herself. Should she go through too many bumps and scrapes, she begins to look like a zombie.
Possessions: Jennsen unintentionally abandoned her small flat soon after becoming aware of her mutation. She considers her laboratory, where she now lives, to be hers, and "owns" a variety of laboratory equipment and chemicals, including a huge supply of surgical gloves. Beyond that, her only possessions are an emergency generator, a small hoard of biology texts, and a couple of long, sharp carving knives that she uses as impropmptu weapons.
Profession: Scientist (Microbiologist)
Abilities/Traits:
Resistance to poison and disease
Jennsen's defining trait is an apparent immunity to pathogens, and a good resistance to most poisons. While she would probably succumb to a good neurotoxin, lesser poisons such as alcohol or formaldehyde don't seem to bother her at all. This means that she could eat rotting meat or leave an open wound untreated with little harm.
Toxic
Jennsen's immunity to pathogens is not based on a good immune system, but an ability to ignore them. In fact, she doesn't seem to possess anything resembling a human immune system any more. Jennsen's body is swimming with pathogens; swallowing her blood or getting bitten by her is a good way to get a horrible infection.
Weaknesses:
Slow healing
While Jennsen's strength is normal, all her tissues except bone heal at about a fifth the normal healing rate. Her blood clots at the normal rate so this doesn't make everyday bumps and scrapes all that dangerous, but she does need to take care to keep her skin intact if she wants to pass for a normal human. Even everyday wear and tear takes its toll; due to this slow regeneration rate, her hair is falling out, parts of her skin can easily be rubbed raw and her gums are normally bleeding.
Drug resistance
Unfortunately, the body can rarely tell between good and bad poisons. Jennsen's resistance to "poisons" spreads to helpful drugs, including anaesthetics and various medications.
Background: Sarah Jennsen was a promising young microbiologist when she moved to Clarensford chasing a job opportunity. She worked in a private laboratory for a few years, just she and her supervisor, before the disaster hit. Although fairly close, it was nearly two weeks before either realised that Jennsen had been affected.
Their microbiological research abandoned, the pair set to learning what they could about the mutations in general and Jennsen's condition in particular. It had been years since either of them had worked in genetics or human biology and they bought, borrowed and stole books and lab equipment as necessary. Jennsen's supervisor didn't seem to be affected by the blast, so their primary concern was Jennsen's condition.
Jennsen spent more and more time in the lab, working with her supervisor or on her own, performing experiments on herself and on tissue cultures from her own body. When not working, she spent her time working out, trying to maintain her muscles in the face of slow tissue regeneration. One day, her supervisor didn't come into the lab. Jennsen pressed onward on her own, trying to understand her condition and only leaving the lab for supplies.
There's still a lot about herself and mutants in general that Jennsen doesn't understand, but she knows she'll solve it in the end. She always does.
Role Play Sample:
Jennsen felt the flask slide in her hand and instinctively tried to save it. The glass shattered on the edge of the desk, there was a sharp pain, and her white glove began to drip red liquid. Jennsen cursed. It wasn't the loss of the flask she was worried about, or even the bacteria in her wounds; it was the fine slices left in her fingers by the shards, wounds that would take weeks to heal.
