Name: Father Alexander Russ
Race:Human
Age: 56
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 258
Physical Description: A seemingly quiet man, Father Russ is anything but. Wild, unruly red hair and a long but carefully trimmed and maintained beard frames a lined and caring face, with a hint of sadness at the world in his eyes. Old and bent by the ravages of the world, Father Russ still looks out from under his craggy brow with hope and love for all in his eyes. Father Russ was one of the few who was unaffected by the explosion.
Possessions-
Walking Stick: An Irish Blackthorne walking stick, the Good Father uses it as an aid when he is amongst the people, to help him traverse dangerous terrain.
Rosary and Bible: As a devout Catholic, he always has his rosary and Holy Bible on his person.
Abilities and Traits:
A loving man. He takes the lessons to love everyone to heart, and would tell a man stabbing him to death that he loved him and forgave him. Father Russ refuses to believe that there is no good in a person, and will labor to his dying day to pull that very good out.
When he was a young man, Alexander was an inspiring boxer. After ruining what his mother called a beautiful nose and several concussions later, he gave up that dream, but has always kept himself in fighting trim. He still knows how to throw a punch, and his walking stick is a hard wood. He'd never hit to kill or even do serious harm, just enough to stop a member of his flock from being harmed.
Weaknesses:
His love is his weakness. For he will be betrayed by those he loves, mistreated, abused, all because he loves them as he believes he ought to love them. The more nefarious people take advantage of this more frequently than they should.
He is an old man. Many would say mid-50s isn't old, but when you have borne the spiritual weight of other peoples sins on your back for almost 30 of those years, it takes its toll.
Background:
Alexander Russ was born in the 'slums' of Clarensford, son of an 8th generation Irish-American mother and a Russian immigrant father. Always taught to excel, no matter what, he was an avid reader, good student, and decent amateur boxer as a teen.
When he turned 20, Alexander hung his gloves up and joined the seminary to become a Priest. Rising quickly, he became in charge of the Childrens Classes at the Saint Micheals Church. He grew to have a favorite of all his students, a young boy named Angel.
When the explosion happened, the Father was unaffected, and did not fall to hatred like his brother Father Ira or fall to zealotry like his young protege Angel. A deep loneliness was cut into Father Russ' heart that day, he lost the Father he had worked with his entire career, and the young man he expected to take his place one day.
Father Russ goes into the city streets, helping the people of the city, whether they be hungry, sick, mutant and human. He preaches services for mutant and human congregations, and refuses to separate the people. They are all Gods children in his eyes.
He tries to get the Divine Right and the Heretics Invictus to come together on their issues, but so far he has failed. many of the H.I. refuse to meet with and discuss peace with the D.R., and the D.R. has almost placed Father Russ on the receiving end of their torments more than once for being a 'mutant-lover'.
Role Play sample:
Father Russ bent his head and closed his eyes as he read the last of the Final Rites. This young child had been brutally harmed, but by who he did not know. It was not the Heretics Invictus, for the boy was a mutant. Nor could it be the Divine Right, they didn't wander to this side of town.
It must have been someone else, but for what reasons the Father did not know...
