Kari followed Markus into the trailer, having not missed the shaking hands. So something was up.
"C'mon Katie. Let's go see what stupid has in mind." Quietly she stood by the door, listening to the two boys chat.

Ray Ray nodded. When he spoke, his voice was raspy, sounding like sandpaper rubbing together.
"Yea. You got hummies that are normal, and don't give a hell whatever is wrong with you. They're the best to find, cause they'll treat you like everyone else. Then you got a group of hummies in the east quadrant called the Divine Right. Humans that didn't mutate, that believe they need to destroy the mutant, cause we wouldn't have been mutated if we were stronger in the faith. They believe God will free them from the city if they destroy all mutants."
Taking a deep breath, he lifted some water to his cracked lips and drank it slowly, in sips trying to get it to help.
"Then you have the muties that are still the same people they were before they changed, just regular people with a few minor alterations. Then there is the Heretics Invictus. They took their name as an opponent to the Divine Right. Muties, all with some power that makes them believe they are better than humans, they are pretty militant. They want to break the barricade, but that ain't gonna happen. Your best friend in this city, human, mutant, whatever you are, is Father Andrei Russ. He leads the 'lost lambs of God' to salvation. He's good to everyone, and the only human the Heretics tolerate."
Plucking at the guitar, going from country to something decidedly Spanish, he thought for a moment. Just sitting, rocking the chair and playing his guitar. He wasn't in the room as far as he was concerned anymore, but transported in his mind to some where else.

Markus got up and walked outside. He motioned Kari to step aside and let him through. Markus just kept walking for a minute or so. During the walk he felt anxious, he was going to try out his 3DS and with any luck, contact 'A' and find out his next move and some more answers.
The trailer was out of sight and since he also needed a break from the hike he decided here would be good enough to check out his gadgets. He opened his pants pocket and took out his 3DS. Surveying the land too make sure no one was watching, he looked high up in the trees to make sure Kari wasn't watching from above. As he took out his 3DS he noticed the system was much heavier and solid, obvious medications were made. How anyone could understand how to make these modifications is puzzling to him.
The 3DS turned on by itself and displayed the lower case of the Greek letter Alpha. at this point Murkus's heart was pounding.
A wheezy voice came out from the system, "Hello, Markus. From I've been listening in to your adventures thus far. The fact that you've opened the system tells me it is safe to speak."
"Yes, I don't see anyone around. I wasn't sure if you'd want to talk to me in privet or not."
"I do for now, just talk low and we're be fine. When the blast occurred you and I were just outside the city. We were both running and somehow we lost track of each other and got lost. I made it out. Luckily you are seem safe, I also appear to be safe. I don't trust the mutants, and would like your help to eliminate them."
As soon as Markus heard those word his stomach turned. He didn't know what to think. He just met two friends that are mutants and now Alpha is asking him to eliminate friends. He had to inquire, "Why can't they be trusted?"
"Because there is no telling what the effects of the blast have on their emotions, actions, personalities, ect... they are very random now. I have reason to believe this is also contagious."
Markus couldn't believe it, the idea of mutants actually being a threat like this. So far Kari and Ray Ray haven't shown any real unnecessary violence against him.
"How do I use the sword, that is, activate it?"
"There is a lever on the bottom. The sword is mechanical." The 3DS began to display the sword and act as a sort of visual guide. What mind could come up with this he wondered. "The sword should open at the top and each piece should pop out and construct itself. I've tried various methods of opening this effect and I think I've found the right one. the sword has flaws, it's out of balance at time because the gears inside shift around. I have a sword for myself too. I am currently working on a gun. Might be more useful then a sword. To collapse the sword just pull the lever back. The sword take about 3.7 seconds to unfold and 2.5 seconds to Collapse." The screen flickered and displayed the letter alpha again. "That is all for now, just stay safe. The 3DS also acts a cell phone, and please don't be careless with it's use. Battery power doesn't last forever." The system turned off.
Markus stood there stunned. He was left with a choice. Trust someone he's never met or two people that have taken him in.

Kari stepped politely to the side and allowed Markus to get by, listening to his footsteps recede only to stop. There was a brief rustling and a click... then the conversation started. Kari could only hear bits and pieces but from what she picked up, one of Markus's friends didn't like mutants. Kari's tail whipped back and forth. He didn't sound as though he agreed though... Kari sighed and knelt, wrapping her tail around her feet as she petted Katie again, scratch just where she couldn't reach.
"Why must people have so many issues against those of us who are different?" Kari murmured to the dog.

Ray Ray kept himself in his own little world. If he was needed, Katie would draw him out of it, just like she always did. He sat and played his guitar, painting a picture of memories with it, memories of when he wasn't like this, wasn't sick, and this trailer was a home. Katie, Amy and him. Happiness and hard times, but they always looked at the bright side of things. Then he got sick, Amy left, tried to take Katie from him. He stole Katie back the day before the explosion, and Amy was coming to get her, which was why Amy was standing at the bus stop in the middle of the city. The part of the city now known as Ground Zero.
He started singing again, not really paying any attention to what he was doing or saying, not even the tears streaming down his face, black tears from black eyes.
"Row, me bully boys row, We'll sing and we'll dance, and bid farewell to France, So Row, Me bully boys Row..."

Markus stood there stunned. He didn't want to stay away too long and risk them suspecting something. As he walked back he put away the 3DS system and took out his sword. For the first time he was holding it. The swords handle was silver with sapphire trims. Looking at the bottom he spotted the lever. It was deep enough to not worry about it expanding and collapsing randomly and shallow enough to reach with his index finger. He stop where he was and held the sword pointing the end away form him. With the sword help in his right hand he used his left to flick the lever. Sure enough the blade started to form. In his excitement he began swinging around.
After some swinging action he made a jump and cut off a tree's branch. With that he was satisfied enough and flicked the lever back to collapse the sword. He resumed his walk back to the trailer.
"Hey." cried out Markus as he walked back. Markus had no intention of revealing anything to Kari and Ray Ray just yet. Alpha can listen into conversations and can't risk anyone hearing. After all he hasn't decided what to do yet. Markus waved at Kari as he passed her. Going straight into Ray Ray's trailer.
Standing at the doorway he addressed Ray Ray he asks, "Do you have any five fingered glove I may use, I was out for a stroll and my hand got quit cold." If Markus' hands are mutating it's best to hide it as my as possible he thought. Markus noticed and yet ignored the black tears on Ray Ray's face.

Kari shook herself free of shock and followed Markus in. She still wasn't quite with it when Markus began asking questions. Once more shaking herself free of shock Kari turned to answer Markus's questions when she saw the tears.
"Ray Ray! Are you okay?" Kari cried quickly moving to his side, petting away his inky tears. She wanted to hug the guy - as was her nature, but quite a few people hated hugs so she avoided that. But he was in so much pain - Kari could feel it almost overwhelming her own emotions. Soon she too was crying.
"S-shit, I'll be right back... I need to clear my head." Kari managed to rasp out before she bolted back out the door, Katie remaining with her master.

Ray Ray shook his head. He hadn't even known he was crying. One of those by products of mutation he guessed. "Go watch her Katie Bug. She don't know around here."
Katie Bug woofed and ran outside, sniffing for Kari.
Looking at Markus, Ray Ray shrugged. "I got some fingerless leather ones. Ain't gonna help much with cold though. Get some scissors, there should be some gloves in that drawer, just cut the fingers off of em."

Markus walked over to the drawer, feeling sorry for Ray Ray and Kari. He opened the drawer and grabbed a pair of black leather gloves. The moved other objects around the drawer looking for scissors but failed to find any.
Markus walk out of the trailer and took out his sword. Hold it in his right hand Markus flicked the lever of the sword with his left and watched it expand. Using the edge of the sword he started cutting the fingers off. As he was working on the gloves he was thinking about Alpha, Markus wasn't ready to just turn his back on Kari and Ray Ray just yet.
When Markus finished cutting the gloves he put them on. Hopefully they will supply some distraction away form the rash. Taking a closer look at his hands he pokes around a bit and see what looks like an extra layer of skin growing.
Surveying the land Markus yelled out for Kari, "Kari! I need to talk with you." Markus flicked the lever back and collapsed the sword.

She had been sitting just behind a tree, struggling to control the overwhelming emotions when Katie came running up. Kari looked up to see the big dog look her in the eye before the dogs tongue ran all the way up Kari's face. Kari sputtered and giggled helplessly as she leaned forward and hugged the dog.
"Thanks Katie, but kisses weren't what I had in mind." Kari murmured, scratching the dog's back for her, feeling better almost instantly. Kari'd always loved dogs and Katie was definitely no exception.
"Kari! I need to talk with you." She heard Markus yell. She'd been so distracted my Katie and her own emotions she hadn't even heard the boy come out. Groaning as she stood she turned and moved to Markus, drying her eyes as she went.
"What's up Markus?"

As Markus walked out, Ray Ray threw a cigarette butt at him.
"You're fucking welcome you ungrateful shithook."
Grumbling to himself, Ray Ray went into the back room, tracing his hands on the walls as he went. A lot of history and a lot of memories could be unlocked just by feeling the walls, remembering what they felt like on a certain day, or brushing against them as he went to whatever he was excited or forlorn about. Grabbing a pack of smokes, he walked back to the front porch and leaned against the railing, flicking a strike anywhere match on his neck. It was pretty neat, he remembered watching movies where the war hero could do that. Ray Ray had always wanted to be a hero. Unfortunately, he thought as he smelt the brimstone and sulfur of the match, he had been a little devil all his life.
He watched Markus walk to Kari, and couldn't help but grumble. "Ungrateful little bastard...."

Markus' hands were shaking, not because of the mutations but because so much was going through his mind. He noticed Kari was crying, he ignored it completely but reminded him to choose his words wisely. "Before I tell you what's on my mind do you think you could find me a water source near by? like a creek or a river. I'm getting thirsty."

Kari frowned and used her sleeve to wipe the rest of the tears and dog drool off her face.
"You're thirsty again?" Kari shook her head before lifting her nose to the air once more and inhaling deeply, her ears twitching to catch any sound.
"This way." Once more Kari led him to small body of water - this time a small creek. Stopping she leaned back against a tree, her tail wagging slowly back and forth as she watched Markus drink
"You always drink this much water?"

Ray Ray walked around the house grumbling. Katie had walked inside, promptly flopping ehr butt on the sofa and looking at him. He knew what she wanted. When the venison hit the hot skillet, it gave a very satisfying sizzle. He was hungry, Katie was hungry, one of the otehr two was bound to be hungry. Shit happens. He'd eat and feed Katie, and Kari if she wanted some. Markus would have to say 'please'.

While Markus was walking with Kari he remained silent. He dropped his 3DS during the walk and motioned Kari to ignore it.
When they arrived at the creek Markus nodded at Kari and began drinking. When Kari asked Markus if he always drank that much water he wouldn't help think it was a part of his mutation. He sat in the creek and looked straight at Kari and choose his words carefully.
"I'm usually a lot better runner. It's not like me to have ran out of breath when that tree chased me. I wanted to tell you that I made contact with A, whom now wants me to refer to him or her as Alpha. Alpha, hates mutants, he wants me to help him cleanse this city from mutants. I do not know where he is right now nor do I have any intention right now to join him." Markus waited a moment to let Kari think about what she had just heard before continuing, "Which is the fastest way to the city, do you remember?"
